Paul Calvert spoke with award winners from this year's annual dinner.
Every year the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus hosts a dinner for Israel to honour their Christian allies. Paul Calvert spoke with Director of the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus, Josh Reinstein, and asked him why they began the annual event.
Josh: All over the world they do nights to honour Israel. We said we have so many friends from the Christian world, Christians are doing such great things for Israel; faith-based diplomacy is the most important thing in our diplomatic arsenal, why not take one night where we can honour Christians, and give them an award. It's turned into one of the highest awards a Christian can receive from the State of Israel.
Paul: Is communication between Christians and Jews good?
Josh: Absolutely. There is a new relationship between Jews and Christians in the 21st century. It's something we never expected, but you know God has His own plans. It's amazing to see it come together.
Attending the event was the American Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, and Paul asked him how important he thought the relationship was between Jews and Christians.
Ambassador Friedman: Yes extremely important. The Christian community has a significant share in the building and the rebuilding of the State of Israel. We owe them a great debt of gratitude and it's great to see them all here.
Paul: What is your prayer for the future of the State of Israel?
Ambassador Friedman: We pray for peace. We pray for peace every day and I think we have the best chance of getting there under the current President.
One of the people who was honoured in the evening's event was Christine Darg. She was the winner of the Lifetime Tourism award. She has been bringing thousands of people to Israel over the years. Paul spoke with her about the honour of receiving the award.
Christine: It really is an honour for all of the Christians that are here, because that's the theme of the evening, the night to honour Christian allies.
Paul: Do you do a lot to promote Christianity among the Jews?
Christine: Well, we do the Jerusalem Channel, you can go to the Jerusalemchannel.tv. We discuss all the issues of the day and they know that I am an evangelical. It's amazing times have changed. I've been here so long, I have seen a transition from when the Jewish people held us more or less at arms length, but now they have decided to embrace evangelical Christians. It's because of the pressure that is happening; the persecution that is happening to both Jews and Christians is bringing us together.
Paul: Are relations special between Christians and Jews?
Christine - Oh absolutely, because after all they are our roots, without them our faith doesn't really make sense.
Paul: Donald Trump has recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital. You're American and you're being awarded tonight and it's the 70th year of the State of Israel. Do you feel that God is in all of this?
Christine: I really do, because as we look at Bible prophecy, and as we study Bible prophecy, we see so many prophecies coming to pass. For example Zechariah 12:3 about the nations coming against Jerusalem and wanting to divide Jerusalem and move Jerusalem, but the word of God says Jerusalem is an immovable rock. So really what Donald Trump has done is just to agree on that point of what scripture says.
Paul: What is your prayer for Israel, bearing in mind what is happening in the north and the possibility of war coming soon?
Christine: As a watchman on the wall, as a person who prays fervently for the peace of Jerusalem, we always pray for Israel's destiny to be fulfilled, not in the future. Many Christians pray for Israel's destiny to be fulfilled when Jesus returns and they look to that time, but we pray for Israel to be the light that it is always meant to be, to be a holy nation, a nation of priests and a nation that takes the light to the world.
Alan Clemmons, a legislator in the South Carolina House of Representatives, was the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award. He passed landmark legislation in the area of Boycott Divestment and Sanctions against Israel that is now in 25 states. Paul spoke with Alan and asked him what it was like winning the award.
Alan: It's an incredible feeling, but in reality I am accepting this on behalf of millions of Israel loving Americans and I am honoured to do so.
Paul: Tell us about what you do and why you have won this award.
Alan: I am an elected official in South Carolina and a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. Over the last seven years or so, I have been very focused on doing what can be done from a state level, by a member of that South Carolina House of Representatives to support the Jewish nation.
God has blessed me to be successful in pushing back on BDS. We were the first state in the nation to do that and now 24 other states have followed suite. Half of America is supporting Israel with regard to the financial extortion attempts of the hateful BDS movement.
We are now working on issues of anti-Semitism on campuses. Whatever we can do to help the Jewish nation we are committed to that assistance.
Paul: Do you feel that the relations between Jews and Christians is a very good relationship?
Alan: I do, particularly among the evangelical Christians in the United States. There is a great love in their heart for Israel. That love was expressed in the last Presidential election I think. It was the evangelical Christian community that delivered the vote to President Trump and that was over the common denominator of Israel and of Jerusalem being Israel's eternal capital. He made a promise to that community that he would move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and he has lived up to that promise now. That is of no small part because of the love that Christians in America have for Israel, that that has come to pass.
Paul: What is your prayer for the future of Israel?
Alan: The relocation of the embassy to Jerusalem to start with, and the support for Israel in the United States is only increasing. Education goes light years towards pushing back on the lies and deceit of Israel haters and anti-Semites. As we get the message out, as we continue our work in the United States, there will be more turning their hearts to Israel.
