Ever seen 'Friends'? If you haven't seen it then you need to and if you're a fan already (like me!) then you'll know what I'm talking about!! 'Friends' is an American sitcom based around 6 people (Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey) who live in New York City. They are all best friends and have known each other for years. They laugh together, cry together, have fun together, support each other no matter what and they love each other.

Why am I telling you this? Well...this article is all about friendship. You see...I believe that it's really important to have friends around you who you can laugh with, cry with, have fun with, support, trust and love. I also believe that you should have friends that build you up and spur you on rather than friends who tend to crush you and bring you down.

The people who you hang out with will have such a massive influence on your life. They will shape you without you even knowing it. That's fine if you've got healthy friendships with great people. However, if your friends start doing things that you disagree with or are uncomfortable with, then you need to ask yourself the question, 'Are they the right people for me to be hanging out with?'

I'm not saying that all your friends have to be Christians and I'm not saying that you have to ditch all of your mates and become a lone-ranger...that would be stupid. What I am saying is be careful. If you're friends with someone who gossips all the time and you find yourself gossiping with them, then I suggest you think carefully about whether or not that's a good relationship for you to be in. If you're friends with someone who's putting pressure on you to smoke or do things you don't want to do, then the same thing applies...is that a good relationship to be in?

Why don't you spend a bit of time over the next week or so thinking about who your friends are and their influence on your life. Maybe you'd even like to try praying for your friends? Invite God into your friendships and be amazed at the difference it makes!

Have a look at Proverbs 18:24 and Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 and see what the Bible has to say about friends. CR
