David Kramer reflects on who Adam was, what Adam and Jesus did and what it means for us.

Adam had it all. Here's a sample taken from the first two chapters of Genesis:

• Created in God's image


• Brought to life by the very breath of God


• Blessed by God


• Commissioned by God, '...Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it...'


• Placed in a garden tailor made for him by God Himself


• Experiencing unhindered relationship and communication with his maker


• Free to choose, make decisions - a mouse is a mouse now because Adam named it then


• Given a wife handcrafted for him by God


• Enjoying absolute innocence. Adam and Eve were, '...naked and unashamed...'

So, what did the guy who had it all do? He blew it. He allowed himself to be suckered by the serpent, one of the creatures over which he'd been given dominion. He gave it all away for a piece of fruit, from the only tree in the whole garden forbidden him. Forbidden for a very good reason. It would cost him his life.

What is more, he didn't just lose it for himself, but his disobedience robbed us of the indescribably wonderful lives God had for us.

So how would you describe Adam? Be ready for a surprise. Here's how the apostle Paul describes him to the believers in Rome, '...Adam, who was a type of the One who was to come.' Romans 5:14.

Excuse me! Adam was a type of Jesus! You're kidding right! How does that work?

The Amplified Bible puts it this way, '...Adam was a type (prefigure) of the One who was to come (in reverse, the former destructive, the latter saving).'

I think that's what you call the wow factor!

EVERYTHING Adam lost by his disobedience, Jesus got back by His obedience and gave it back to us. Before he blew it, Adam was given authority to rule, because he was under God's authority. Jesus says to His followers, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples....' Matthew 28:18-20

We are part of God's amazing plan to put everything back how it was in the beginning. Of course in the world as it currently is, we have to fight the fight of faith to access and live in this reality.

The present state of the world is real. God's kingdom is a GREATER REALITY, (thanks to Bill Johnson for that phrase). Whatever reality you're facing right now, God's answer is both real and greater.

An important part of the answer to the prayer Jesus taught us to pray, 'Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven', (emphasis mine), is you and I living our lives under His Kingship, thus allowing Him to demonstrate through us that it works. We need to truly reflect the last Adam (Jesus) and not the first one, (1 Corinthians 15:45).

What a privilege. What a responsibility.

My prayer is, "Help me Lord and grace, grace for all of us."
