What does God do? To His people - to the woman - to us?
God says to in Hosea 3:1:
'Go show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.'
It's clear that Gomer cheats on Hosea - a lot, but God tells him to go and bring her home.
No matter how wayward we are, God calls us home. He invites us back to Him.
'"Return to Israel, to the Lord your God. Your sins have been your downfall. Take words with you, and return to the Lord. Say to him: 'Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer you the fruits of our lips."' Hosea 14:1-2
And what is God's reply?
'I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger has turned away from them.' Hosea 14:4
No matter how far we stray, God always calls us home.
