Genesis 12:1-4
Mark Scholtz talks about finding our Purpose, Position and Provision in God
Genesis 12:1-4
"The Lord had said to Abram, 'Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father's family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.' So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran."
God had a purpose for Abraham - He said: "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others." Abraham's purpose was to be a blessing to the rest of the world, but in order for Abraham to fulfil his purpose, he had to position himself in obedience to God. God said: "Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father's family, and go to the land that I will show you." As Abraham positioned himself by going on the journey set before him, God provided everything that was needed on the way. God even provided their own flesh and blood son through whom the promise would be fulfilled. They had not been able to have their own children in their youth and yet now when they were both too old, God gave them a son! God always provides what is needed for us to fulfil our purpose when we position ourselves in obedience to Him. Purpose, Position and Provision are closely linked in God's Kingdom.
Position is where you live, where you work, which church family you belong to, how you live your life and in fact any obedient step you need to take. Provision is material provision, the right support structures, the people you need around you and the gifting and anointing you need to accomplish what He's set before you. To fulfil your Purpose you need to be correctly Positioned and then in your correct Position God Provisions you. Sometimes the Provision isn't what we expect or even what we would hope for, but it will always be enough to accomplish your God-given Purpose. I live in the understanding that if I don't have something I feel I need then I don't need it right then. Jesus did not even withhold the blood in His veins when I needed it to atone for my sin, so why would He withhold anything else from me? If I don't have it, then I don't need it yet and I need to trust God despite my restrictions. If Paul could advance the Kingdom from the restriction of a prison then no restriction we feel we might have can stop us either! What's important is that we Position ourselves correctly.
Sometimes your Purpose is where you are currently Positioned, so you need to remain where you are. Sometimes your Purpose moves to a new Position, so you need to change Position. If you're at "A" then "A" is where your Purpose and your Provision will be found. Then God says I have an assignment for you at "B". Like Abraham, your Purpose just moved to "B" and your new Provision just moved to "B" too. You can't stay at "A". There's a well-worn phrase when you stay at "A" for too long. It's called "being out of God's will." As scary as it might be, you have to move to your new Position, because that's where your Purpose and new Provision now lie. We get scared of "B" when we're at "A", because we're trying to figure out how we'll accomplish "B" with "A's" provisioning. But, at "B" is new Provision. When you get to "B", you will get "B's" Provisioning which will enable you to do what you need to do. Sometimes we get scared of "B", because we know we won't have "A's" provisioning anymore. We've got comfortable with what we have at "A". If we don't move however, we miss the faith growing, mind blowing miracles waiting for us at "B". At "B", barren wombs come to life.
Purpose, Position and Provision are all interconnected. God has a Purpose for you. In order to fulfil your purpose you need to Position yourself correctly. In your God-ordained Position, there is Provision - everything you need to get the job done.
