Tony Cummings reports on Scotland's veteran pop rock hitmakers, DEACON BLUE
The Glasgow-based pop rockers Deacon Blue, as any pop historian will know, have achieved phenomenal success and their big hits like 1988's "Real Gone Kid", 1989's "Fergus Sings The Blues" and 1992's "Your Town" are much loved oldies, no doubt currently clocking up considerable Spotify and Amazon royalties as Deacon Blue's legion of fans make the requests of Alexa and Echo Dot. But of course, Ricky Ross and his cohorts are no musical museum pieces but a fully functioning, touring and recording band and Deacon Blue have just announced that they will be releasing a new album, 'City Of Love', on 6th March 2020.
The band have recently played Australia and New Zealand, performing to enthusiastic crowds in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. A buzz is now beginning to grow about the forthcoming 'City Of Love' album, which is being described as "eleven brilliant new tracks tethered by a singular belief - that even in the corners of a town or a life where no light falls, hope can prevail." The release of the album will be followed by a 23 city tour in October, November and December 2020, kicking off in Perth, Scotland on 28th October and concluding in Glasgow on 4th December. The tour will include seven arena shows and London's renowned Royal Albert Hall.
Said Ricky Ross, "We're so looking forward to you hearing 'City Of Love' and getting out on the road, playing new songs and old songs too. Every time we tour now it feels like a celebration because our fans are still there and it's a delight for us. We're planning to make this the best one yet."
'City Of Love' is released by earMUSIC on 6th March 2020 as CD Digipak, LP and Digital.
