We spoke to four of Britain's leading exponents of children's ministry, JIM BAILEY, DOUG HORLEY, SAMMY HORNER and ISHMAEL, asking them some tough questions. Here are their illuminating answers
Continued from page 2
SH: "In a word, no. Our schools programme still. runs at a loss, even churches who invite us into their area to work in the schools rarely pay us anything... I could go on about this one, but churches need to get real about the kids....or they with feel the real cost later."
What do you think is the best children's album ever
made?
DH: "'Spice World'! (Although funnily enough. I'm
quite keen on my own albums!)"
JB: "It has to be Ishmael's 'The Power And The Glories'. It was radical when it was released and it is still as radical today. It has a mega anointing on it. I learnt all about the gifts and fruit of the Spirit from this album. I've even told Ish that I'd like to re-record the album, so watch this space."
SH: "Yikes! I can tell you what it ain't! I will take a disclaimer on this one, but I think the best Christian musical thing you can buy your kids at the minute is Veggie Tales...l know its video, but it's got music as well. Does my silence find me guilty?"
I: "There is no such thing. Every album is down to individual taste,
but if you asked for the best children's song I would not hesitate in
saying 'We Want To See Jesus Lifted High' follows a close second to
'Father God I Wonder' (although rumour has it that my best mate Duggie
Dug Dug disagrees with me)."
