Tony Cummings spoke to Jesus Culture's KIM WALKER-SMITH about her 'On My Side' album
Continued from page 1
Kim: No. The only song that had been sung before a congregation multiple times was "Fresh Outpouring". I was so excited when that one was written that I wanted to do it right away. The next week I was doing it at our conference in Los Angeles last summer. It took off. People responded really well to it, and I started doing it at church. I did "Undone" at a ladies' conference in Colorado. I was a speaker but I did a session of worship. The conference was actually called Undone. The ladies loved it. "When will this song be on an album?" I said, "Soon!"
Tony: How much of your time is spent out of music but administrating at Jesus Culture Music?
Kim: I just recently stepped down. I'm about to have baby number three - a little girl in June - so I decided to step down. I've always had regular work days, and I love that. I love the organisation and the business side of things; I worked as a banker before I was full-time in music. With a third kid coming, I don't know what's going to happen to my life. When I'm not writing, not leading worship, I'm home with my kids, sorting out life with them.
Tony: Has someone taken your admin duties?
Kim: Yes. Actually, Jeremy Edwardson. I hired him to work for me a while back, helping me to manage the label, and I handed it off to him. He's worked with us so many years, he knows us so well - a really incredible friend. He understands our core values and what's most important to us. He's done an excellent job stepping in and taking over.
Tony: Do you think "On My Side" will be the next one of your songs to go around the world?
Kim: It is so tough to say. For me, that one or "Fresh Outpouring". "Fresh Outpouring" is the cry of so many churches, so many people - not just for our church but for our homes and our families. Both of those - one resonates in a deep place in our hearts, the other in the corporate cries of our hearts. So either one of those.
