Tony Cummings went to Bilston to talk to the renowned singer/songwriter MARTIN SMITH
Continued from page 2
Tony: Is there an American tour planned?
Martin: Not at the moment. I'm going to try and do Ireland, Wales, Scotland next year, February - probably with Paul - and that will bring this chapter, the 'God's Great Dance Floor' stuff, to an end, I think. Next year I'm feeling I need to be a bit braver: I'd like to start a new project from scratch - a whole new batch of songs, purely mainstream. I don't know where it'll be pitched, but just so I could come to places like this with a concert-going crowd. I'm just seeing how that develops.
Tony: Would that be completing a circle?
Martin: I think it could be, yeah.
Tony: Tell me something about yourself you haven't yet told me.
Martin: You move into another season, but if you're prepared to give
some of it away, it's amazing what creativity comes back. It's amazing
what joy comes to you as well. I suppose there's a little bit of a dad
thing there, but I'm really enjoying this season; next year I'm ready
to unleash some great music I've been working on. It'll take this a
bit further.
