Classical repertoire give a radical makeover with guitar and electro production.
As Cross Rhythms review editor I felt something of a dilemma in deciding where to dispatch this latest EP from the guitar virtuoso. A look at the composer credits (Bach, Sibelius, Satie, Albeniz) would suggest it should go to our classical specialist for review while one listen to the punchy electro programming made me consider sending it to one of our devotees of EDM. Finally, this grizzled journo decided to do the job himself and glad I am that I did, 'Like You've Never Heard' being one of the freshest CDs I've heard this year. My particular favourite was the dazzling rendition of Albeniz's "Asturias" though both Bach's "Prelude No 1" and Sibelius' "Finlandia" work better than you could ever imagine. I personally didn't go for the electro touches to Eric Satie's "Gymnopedie No 1" but then I'm a sucker for that lovely melody played on solo piano. But elsewhere Carter's extraordinary guitar technique and wiley programming make for a truly intriguing blend.
