BeBe Winans faces misdemeanour domestic assault charge
R&B GOSPEL singer BeBe Winans, who has held the number one
position for four weeks straight on Billboard's Gospel Chart with the
comeback album with sister CeCe 'Love Unstoppable', has fallen into a
major controversy. Talk show host Oprah Winfrey has removed BeBe Winans from her
programme's Karaoke Challenge until charges against him for allegedly
pushing his ex-wife to the ground are resolved. Recently when the
gospel singer appeared on the show with CeCe to promote their album
BeBe's ex-wife Debra called the show and complained of double
standards. Winfrey has taken a strong stand against domestic violence.
Winans was charged with misdemeanour domestic assault after an
incident on 13th February when the singer and his ex-wife were
allegedly arguing about their children. Winans has a court date set
for 20th January 2010. Commenting on Winfrey's decision to remove BeBe
from her programme until the case is settled, Debra in a statement
said, "It further demonstrates the fact that Oprah continues to be a
strong voice against domestic violence and that she's willing to take
the steps necessary to defend the defenceless."
Oh boy! Yet another 'celebrity' Christian potentially in trouble.
It just goes to show that when a man or woman of God is in the public eye, whatever error they make (however large or small), it gets magnified by about 10 times due to their status and the media dishing the dirt. The errors/sins that a non-famous Christian makes won't get any headlines, but it doesn't mean it is hidden from God.
