Mojo magazine recounts Al Green's life story
AN EIGHT-page article covering the life and times of Al Green has been published in the March 2022 issue of Mojo magazine. Hi Priest Of Soul by Bob Mehr covers Green's seminal soul pop hits for Memphis' Hi Records through to his current position as founding minister of Memphis' Full Gospel Tabernacle.
Among the many revealing aspects of the soul star's life covered by Mehr is his conversion experience following a performance at Disneyland in 1973. Said Green, "I had a born again awakening. in the Coach'n'Tour Motel in Anaheim, California, and I never been the same since." He said he heard the voice of God. "He said, 'I want you to come to me. COME to me.' 'But I got to sing these songs and please all these people.' 'You don't have to do anything, Al. Come to me and I'll make everything OK.'"
