The story behind "Call On God" by R&B singer Sharon Jones revealed

IN THE December issue of Uncut magazine Neal Sugarman of funk band Dap-Kings spoke about the recording of "Call On God" featured on the soon to be released album 'Soul Of A Woman' by old school R&B singer Sharon Jones, who died on 18th November last year. Said Sugarman, "['Call On God'] was a song that Sharon had written long before she was with the Dap-Kings. Sharon was very involved with her church choir since the '70s. We even re-issued a seven inch they made in the late '70s as E L Fields Gospel Wonders. Many of the people from that record stayed with that choir and are still there today. One of Sharon's dreams was to record more gospel music and whenever she sang those songs, yes, it always packed a wallop. One thing that added to the impact of that song was that after a memorial service the pastor had for Sharon at their church, the choir came back to the studio in Bushwick and recorded all the backup vocals. It was a very intense moment and there were a lot of tears that you can feel in the track."
