New book by Christian Scharen explores human brokenness in popular music
A PROFESSOR at an American seminary has written a book, Broken Hallelujahs: Why Popular Music Matters To Those Seeking God. The book's title refers to a lyric in Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". Another musician featured in the book by Assistant Professor at Luther Seminary in St Paul, Minnesota, Christian Scharen, is jazz singer Billie Holiday. The book, published by Brazos Press, explores the concept of brokenness as an analogy to Christ's suffering.
