GospoCentric Records seeks $50 million from EMI CMG

THE GOSPEL company GospoCentric Records is locked in a legal battle with EMI Christian Music Group. In the latest move, a countersuit seeking more than $50 million in compensatory damages and unspecified punitive damages. GospoCentric's counterclaim is intended to "stop a powerful music corporation (EMI-CMG) from destroying an independent, Christian, African-American, woman-owned record label." The suit asserts that EMI has "acted with prejudice and bad faith to try to put GospoCentric out of business." The case hinges around GospoCentric artist Kirk Franklin's involvement in the God's Property project released by B'Rite Records and distributed by Interscope and Word. CR
