Classic blues gospel album by Rev Gary Davis re-issued
AN ALBUM by Reverend Gary Davis, who in the '60s moved from being a
musician singing and playing on the streets of Harlem, New York to
become an internationally acclaimed folk, blues and gospel musician,
has been re-issued with eight bonus tracks. Writing about 'Harlem
Street Singer' the Red Lick catalogue wrote, "Another fabulous
re-issue from the good folks at Souljam Records. This latest re-issue
is just about as a vital as any they have brought us to date, being
the 1961 album (originally issued on Prestige/Bluesville) by the
hugely influential figure that was Rev Gary Davis. Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder
in New Jersey over the course of a single afternoon, this features
many of the songs that Davis became best known and admired for, along
with some of his most impassioned vocal performances and intricate
guitar playing."
