Veteran Mavis Staples to play London gigs
THE 83 year old gospel and R&B singer Mavis Staples will be flying in to Britain to play London Union Chapel on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th July.
Mavis, as part of the legendary Staple Singers can also be heard on the soundtrack album 'Wattstax: The Living Word', re-issued last month by Stax Records and Craft Recordings. The Staples Singers' performance was cut at the iconic Wattstax Benefit Concert at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1972 along with the entire Stax roster of acts including Isaac Hayes, Rufus Thomas and the Bar-Kays.
