OK Tokyo change name to Merchants Of Sidewinder

THE LONDON-based mainstream rock band OK Tokyo have changed their name to Merchants Of Sidewinder. The band have signed with Icelandic indie label Skalindic Records and have begun working on their debut album. A release date has been pencilled in for spring 2008 and the project will "feature a full woodwind section and possibly a duet with an '80s rap legend." CR

Were they the same band as "What it is, is what it is not" ?

That band were amazing and featured only instruments which made a percussive sound, with zero melody.

I remember this band when there were "Whats Wrong With The Blender, Trevor" - which was an appauling rhythming scheme. However, they were devastating live.

I saw Reason to Commit Treason in a one off Arkansas gig in 1998. To the delight of the crowd they did bluegrass versions of all their songs, and arrived on stage on a tractor from a local farm. Pretty impressive stuff.

They changed name from Reason to Commit Treason cos the lead singer scorched someone's eyes out with the uber powerful lasers fitted to his Gretsch Duo Jet while doing a massive gig out here, it was back in the summer of '99 I think... was a great light show and blistering guitar solo until that happened.

Guess that's the price you pay for exploring new frontiers... a lesson for us all.

I've heard from the drummer, directly, that he is releasing a drumming 'concept' album on Medicinal Records. It's a single track and lasts 57 minutes.......

Several people over here have been talking about this band. Apparently they also used to be called 'Reason to commit Treason', and they were enormous in San Francisco. To be honest, they can be called what they want, as long as they keep churning out this kind of quality.

I heard a rumour that this rap legend is a certain Mr T (i could be wrong), but and as a huge A-Team fan, would be very keen on seeing this live!

I'm absolutely positive that they use to be called "Madmardagan"
