THE WRITER of the classic hymns "Amazing Grace", John Newton, is the subject of a new biography by American author Jonathan Aitken. The book, John Newton, published in the US by Crossway Books, draws on previously unpublished diaries and correspondence to profile the slave trader-turned-clergyman. CR
