Gospel R&B icon Mavis Staples sets London alight

A RAVE review article on Mavis Staples in the latest issue of Blues & Soul magazine chronicled her performance at London's Union Chapel, Islington, on 4th July. Wrote Dave Burke, "At the age of 83, Mavis Staples is a force of nature. She's enjoying a purple patch at a time when many would be taking it easy. In recent years she has been more active than many artists a quarter of her age and has had six albums to her name since 2018."

The piece continued, "Her voice remains astonishingly powerful and the audience was captivated for the duration of her 70-minute performance... The ovations she got throughout the performance speak volumes for an artist who can mesmerise music lovers over so many years."
