THE FIRST comprehensive profile of Cross Rhythms readers, highlighting their church affiliation, reading and listening habits has been released by the magazine having analysed readers' completed questionnaires originally enclosed in CR42. Said Richard Anson who carried out the analysis for Cross Rhythms, "Overall, the survey shows an incredibly high reader loyalty to the magazine and its vision. There were some things we long suspected and one or two things we were surprised about. What this information does, however, is show everybody, readers, advertisers, the media, etc, who precisely is reading the magazine and what they're getting out of it."
Age of readership: Although 40% of Cross Rhythms readers are under 30
the average age of a reader is 34.
Christian commitment: 99.6% of
readers consider themselves a committed Christian.
Youth group
involvement: 14% of readers were members of a church youth group.
Church position: 62% of readers hold a position in the church (25%
worship musicians; 16% youth leaders; 5.3% deacons; 4.9% pastors; 3.5%
Sunday school teachers; 7.5% others).
Willingness to publicise
CR: 59% of readers stated a willingness to publicise CR in their
church youth group.
Purchasing habits (CDs): 77% of readers buy
over six Christian CDs a year.
Purchasing habits (books): 62% of
readers buy an average of three Christian books a year. 93% bought at
least one Christian book a year.
Christian festivals: 78% of
readers have gone to a Christian festival in the last two years of
which 22% attended Cross Rhythms, 19.72% Spring Harvest and 18%
Greenbelt.
Influence of CR Experience cassettes: 67% of readers
have bought an album as the result of a track on the Cross Rhythms
Experience tape.
Influence of CR reviews: 65.4% of readers have
bought an album on the strength of a review in CR.
Learning about
Cross Rhythms: Christian bookshops are the main means of people
learning about Cross Rhythms existence (37%), followed by friends
(32%), youth group (17%) and church (17%).
CR readership (sex):
80% of readers are male.
Mail order: 70% of readers said they'd
be interested in a mail order service for albums reviewed in CR.
Other magazines read: 40% of readers read Premier.

Experience (format): 61.4% of readers said they'd prefer the Cross
Rhythms Experience on CD but 71.1% said they wouldn't want to pay
more.
