THE MUSIC world both Christian and mainstream was shocked and saddened by the news of the death by suicide of R&B and gospel singer Vince Ebo. Best known for his extensive touring and recording with singer/producer Charlie Peacock, Ebo was signed to Warner Alliance in 1992. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, he later moved with his family to Sacramento. Ebo began his musical career-playing trumpet in high school. Rejecting a college scholarship in sports, Ebo decided upon a career in the arts, covering writing, arranging and producing and also modelling and acting. He appeared in plays such as Showboat, with Mickey Rooney, and Right Mind Is Nowhere.
Vince sang on many jingles and was lead vocalist for The Fit.
Concerning his involvement in the Christian music scene Ebo didn't
want to be referred to as a "gospel" singer. He said, "I'm just a
singer and I've found (that) the Lord is right for me. I want to be
one whose example says, 'I've got God in my life and that's why I'm
smiling!' I want people to look at me and say, 'Hey, check this cat
out!' Vince was buried in California just before Christmas of last
year and a memorial service was held in Nashville on 4th January.
I was just thinking of my early days as a new believer and Vince and Charlie Peacock played a part in those formative years of faith. Grateful for the comments here and I'll check out his work. I remember when he passed away and it was a confusing thing for me at the time. Life goes on and we press through.
