Making music to raise funds is Eldin's aim
A DRUM-playing teenager who lost both his hands in the recent Bosnian
civil war is to record a fund raising song with help from a British
music therapist. In 1995, 15-year-old Eldin Isovic was blinded and
lost both his hands when he picked up a grenade belonging to his
soldier Jifather at his home in Sarajevo. He was subsequently
airlifted out of the country to the UK for treatment. Eldin first
received surgery in Oxford and later moved to Derby.
John Stamp,
Christian singer/songwriter, runs the Derby-based Music Therapy For
Children Of Trauma Trust, which is affiliated to War Child. Stamp
agreed to work with Eldin, despite the general opinion of other
therapists that musical treatment for Eldin would be valueless. 18
months on, Eldin has spent many hours learning to play the drums,
using specially designed adapted gloves to help him hold the
drumsticks. The pair are currently working on a song which will be
released early next year to raise money for the trust with the
SerboCroation title of "Stari Kaput". John Stamp can be contacted on
