THE 6TH ANNUAL event, Whitby Gospel Music Convention, will take place on 20th to 22nd May at Whitby Pavilion. Making their first appearance at the Convention are the Michael Harcus Band from Orkney and veteran singer/songwriter Gus Eyre. There will be returns to the event for Voices Of Faroe, a large group of singers and musicians from the Faroe Islands Crimson River, a Southern gospel quartet from Northern Ireland Crystal Clear, a ladies trio from Scotland Dave Clemo, a country and worship songsmith from Kettering and The Gardiner Family.
The Saturday afternoon session will feature two tribute concerts, Luke The Drifter: The Other Side Of Hank Williams featuring American country music star George Hamilton IV and Knock And The Door Will Open: The Sacred Songs Of Jim Reeves featuring the event's organiser Paul Wheater. Attractions on the Sunday include performances by the Stockton Citadel Salvation Army Band and the Yorkshire For Christ Choir plus in a fringe event aimed at the under 30s, Lighting The Fire in the Pavilion Theatre singer/songwriter Stuart Menzies Farrant and his band plus local musicians and youth leader Mark Bruce. i love to come to the convention but the last two years a group sang spirit in the sky which is not the gospel, totally opposite. never been a sinner never sinned, quite offensive, hope it is not allowed this year,
