Who Are You When You Pray?: 6. The King - David
One thing that this series of teachings reveals, is that we aren’t necessarily just like one of the people looked at so far, but in different situations and at different times of our lives we probably reflect most people in the Bible.

This week we’re looking at King David. We can see a great deal about his life from reading many of the Psalms that were written by him. Psalm 40 talks about his perseverance, Psalm 51 shows his repentant heart, Psalm 18 shows how David knows God as Saviour. All these Psalms show that when David prays he is in many situations and states of emotion, some are favourable and some are not so favourable.

The key thing we can learn from David isn’t found in the Psalms though, or even the Old Testament but in Acts 13: 22 where God Himself calls David 'a man after my own heart'.

The most important thing that we can learn from David is that no matter what he did right or wrong during his life, God was most interested in his heart condition. When we pray, whether we pray the right things or the wrong things, whether we pray the will of the Father or not – the most important thing is that our heart condition is right, and this happens when our heart is chasing the heart of our Father in Heaven. Today check out your heart – is it after God’s heart? If so keep going, keep praying, because though the way may not be perfect one day you’ll hit God!
