This part of the prayer hits on the fact that God is and will protect and deliver us. It is important to pray for God’s protection from things that we are aware of and those things that we never know He has protected us from. This is something that we can pray for others too, our family, friends even those who lead our nation and us. We can pray that God will protect us from sin, from danger, from hurt, from sickness and many more things.
Asking God that we will not be lead into temptation, means that we are asking that He will help us to be stronger than the things that tempt us to step away from God and the things that as His children, we should be and do.
Asking God to deliver us is asking God to save us from things when there is nothing that we can do, we are asking for a miracle.
You may have noticed that Jesus’ response to the evil one or satan is not to shout at him but to draw closer to God through prayer and so in effect move further away from satan. The way to beat satan is to ignore him and pray to God and draw closer through worship.
