The Armour Of God: 7. The Sword Of The Spirit
“The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6: 17

As the Bible says, the sword that we have to wage war with is the Bible itself. Not that we physically use our Bible to hit people with, but that we use the words in it and proclaim victory over situations and difficulties. It is the word that cuts into darkness and never fails to accomplish what it is set to do.

Jesus Himself when tempted by satan fires scripture back at satan. So when we pray, using the Bible is always a very powerful tool. It is also a way in which we know we are praying God’s will, as we have said before.

The written word of God is our weapon to use when we engage in spiritual warfare, when rebuking satan at the times he whispers lies in our ears as we talked of last time. Therefore know your word, read it and be ready to use it. Just as a good solider has his sword with him at all times on the battle field, so we should either carry a Bible or the knowledge of key verses in our minds. Paul tells Timothy the importance of the word of God and I think that this is something that we can all take on board, especially as it tells us that the word COMPLETES and THOROUGHLY equips us…

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3: 16-17
