"God remembers his promise for a thousand generations," says Israel's leader of songs in Psalm 105; the unpretentious husband-and-wife worship-singer duo of Steven and Amanda Potaczek, based in Indianapolis, are in the business of remembering God's promises. Their third album, the first with Varietal Records, demonstrates the passion and competency that they bring to their worship. Some lovely rhythmic vocals and piano lines more complex than conventional worship music stand out; similarly, a sensitivity for personal expression in worship defines them. "How Big Small Can Be" and "Saints Of Our Redeemer" stand out for their intriguing lyrics. And another track, a stunning catalogue of things that do not phase God, "Fail Us Not", has been named by Tony Cummings as one of the best tracks of 2009. In fact, this is a worship album that throws up as much food for a critical mind as an emotional soul. Squeaky clean recordings mean that this album isn't the "piano-driven rock" that the official website proclaims; but perhaps an album where the pure God is the central inspiration, composed by the son of a doctor who now leads worship in a middle-class church in the mid-West of America ought not to be ashamed of a clean image. And as few will deny, this album is well worth the listening.
