Aardvark is Bristol Christian Fellowship's regular student social and worship meeting. The four tracks presented here are written and performed by Andrew Price (once a member of the legendary Welsh worship collective Springwood) and Jesse Edbrooke (also of Bristol indie-band, Transition) who regularly lead worship at the events. The recordings have a pleasantly downbeat, shoe-gazingly indie feel which works well with the worshipful, Christ-centred lyrics. That the songs have grown out of a worship event is not surprising from the adoration and longing-for-God focus on all four tracks. If comparisons must be made then the closest benchmark would be Paul Oakley's more meditative songs. That the sound here is a little less "sparkly" than on a professional recording does betray the EP's relatively low budget origins. However, it equally shows what good results can be achieved these days and the songs, particularly the hooky title track and "Holding On", burrow their way into your subconscious leaving you humming them at the bus stop. These four tunes show a promise for the future which looks set to grow with the Aardvark event and those involved.
