Abi (Abiodun Jesusanmi) is a Nigerian currently living in Germany and here, on his third release, he presents 10 self-penned songs designed to counter the continual bad news in the world around us with the message that "God, who is rich in mercy and love, has made provision for everyone to find true and lasting joy and peace through the good news of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." Musically the style is pretty much the Western MOR worship that is heard in many churches except for the vocals. The backing vocals provide an African flavour by means of both singing in octaves and the vocal harmony style demonstrated in the opening "Celebrate The Lord Our God." Abi has a unique vocal sound, different to what you might be used to (not the same sound but think of the way Aaron Neville sounds unique) but he sings in a rather flat manner, without apparent emotional expression, which is disappointing. Musical ebb and flow is instead effectively provided by the arrangements of David Healey, but as a listener you're still left with the impression that Abi's voice doesn't fully engage with the music. Lyrically the songs are excellent, mostly reflecting on the character and nature of Jesus, and musically the songs are well written and eminently singable, although as a collection lacking variety due to almost all being mid-tempo. Standout songs are the uplifting "Jesus Loves Me" and "You Are There For Me" which although presented here as a quiet acoustic number would work really well as a high-powered anthem.
