Reviewed by Stephen Adams Acts 29 are a presumably new crew from London, whose name (there are only 28 chapters in Acts), is symbolic of their mission to continue the work of the Gospel from where the book of Acts left off as stated in the Outro track. Their style is pure hip hop, with a nod to the underground rather than the commercial style. I'm unclear as to names of crew members, but their producer's pretty good, as hip hop can be either raised or killed by production quality. "Born-Again Believers" (which comes with a drum and bass remix - not bad) is a minimal jazzy, mellow track, with the crew spitting some serious praise to God and edifying believers with heartfelt, soul-searching lyrics. "Sin Haters" rides beautifully over a rugged, yet poignant beat with a violin and piano sample loop that's nicely switched to avoid monotony, although the first MC slightly mars it with some ordinary rhymes at the start of his verse. And the scratching at the start should have been louder! The Acts 29 crew have another secret weapon in their arsenal, an American MC at the end of both tracks (I hope that accent is real, rather than another British wannabe-American MC) with a strange voice sounding like he's freestyling his lyrics, yet still sounding brilliant. They're original, their beats and lyrics are tight and they sound British. Very good effort.
