From Sky Harbor Studios, an underground bunker in the small town of Owatonna, Minnesota where Adam Young (aka Owl City) resides, a new creative offering has been released. At the start of 2016, Young launched Adam Young Scores, a download initiative whereby each month he releases a conceptual film score based on his interpretation of stories that mean something to him. 'Apollo 11' is the first of such creations and an epic beginning to this project. As soon as you press play on this record characters are brought to life and worlds are formed. This is a beautifully constructed score, inspired by the events of July 16-24, 1969 when man first walked on the moon, and is worthy of downloading. The first track, "Launch", does exactly what the title indicates, rocketing the listener off into an adventure and world of sound led by the string section and brought to life by a wall of drums and brass. A personal highlight for me is "CSM-LM Docking" which uses a repetitive chord structure to bring a driving energy to this track and a sense of new discovery. Ending the album as epically as it started, "Splashdown" seals the journey with a Disney reminiscent, full orchestral sound as the credits start rolling and the last glorious scene plays out in your mind.
