Reviewed by Tom Lennie This 55-min DVD, re-released in 2006, actually features a concert recorded way back in 1991 - in the 'Bible Belt' of California - Anaheim, Orange County. Memphis-based pastor Al Green is well known for his phenomenal live performances, and his music is, of course, much loved by soul aficionados. This recording is a pure gospel offering containing nine songs and, frustratingly, as many minutes worth of between-track rambling, which holds no lasting value. His phraseology is also annoying - like many charismatic TV evangelists, Green has the habit of using repeated slogans such as "Will somebody in the house give me an 'amen'," "Let me hear ya say 'Yeh!'," etc. Thankfully, his musical performance is more impressive, though here the song choice isn't too enthralling. Like the Californian audience, I immediately got into the soulful groove of "Amazing Grace", but was disappointed when this finished after just one verse and two choruses. The climax has got to be the energetic "I Must Tell Jesus", which features the full-blooded accompaniment of the LA Mass Choir. With the vast array of singers and musicians on display, viewing interest is kept fairly high - but it's not the strongest of gospel DVDs.
