Known as "the smiling voice of the Gospel", Alan was hugely popular in the US in the 50s recording over 30 albums and touring with such evangelists as Oswald J Smith and Dr M R DeHaan. His music belonged to the pre-rock era, a fruity, semi-operatic tenor soaring effortlessly across the simplest of accompaniments. The 24 songs here are a mixture of evergreens ("It Is No Secret" and "How Great Thou Art") and some which have long since dropped from use. Alan was a much used vehicle to build up the saints. His music sounds quaint and almost absurdly staid today, but this lovingly compiled album will no doubt touch the grans and granddads who remember Alan in his prime.

Thank you for the pleasure of listening to Alan. I heard him
on Transworld Radio SA, after a Dick Saunders message, and
just loved hearing the old, but uplifting words. I cannot
purchase the CD as I do not have a credit card. But, thank
you for the pleasure of listening.
