Allen Wiggins has taken a mixture of classic songs and hymns and transformed them into an album dedicated to his saxophone. There is little original material and many songs undergo such a metamorphosis that their original meaning is lost. Four out of the nine tracks on the album are instrumental, so don't buy this for lyrical content. The songs provide simply a structure which Wiggins uses as a backdrop for musical interpretation. It cannot be denied that Wiggins is some sax player! 'Tingles-down-spine' factor ten! Here his funky horn ducks and weaves supported by a tighter-than-tight rhythm section and, on occasions, a slick gospel choir manages to encompass a number of styles. As one friend commented "Whitney Houston in the style of jazz-funk..." There are no outstanding tracks, and no hard hitting challenge - just well-played music.  I appreciated being able to put on a background tape and hear high quality Christian instrumental music. And it's great to sunbathe to!!
