A band with an interesting history. As the Sweet Comfort Band and featuring a fresh faced Bryan Duncan they pioneered jazz rock gospel for more than a decade in the States before Bryan went solo and the rest of them brought in a couple of new guys flirted with a series of in vogue rock styles (their 'Virtues album was particularly convincing) and have if anything broadened their sizeable US following. Their albums tend to flit dizzyingly from style to style, on this set you've got flax-style soul ("Take Me To The River",) Southern-rock boogie "Carried Away") and metal ("Burden Down") and with an excellent rasping lead vocalist in Bob Carlisle and three sidemen who can kick into any rock or soul lick you care to mention there's plenty of tightly played good-time rock music even when the songs sound a bit clichéd.
