Alvin Slaughter is no stranger to the Christian music scene, having appeared on numerous Brooklyn Tabernacle recordings, a Hillsongs ‘98 conference and guest vocals on many other projects, not mentioning his six previous solo releases. He's not so much been ‘round the block as paved the walkways. It comes as no surprise then that his latest release is slick and well produced, featuring some fantastic musicians. At times I even laughed at how good some of the musical embellishments really are. Alvin’s voice is powerful, honest and will woo you into the presence of God. I can’t help but think that if Luthor Van Dross did worship, he’d do it a little like this. Of particular note is the quite spectacular “Grace” and gut wrenching “Passion” which showcases Alvin’s voice brilliantly. Sean Slaughter (Alvin’s son) makes a guest appearance on track 7 showing why he's an artist in his own right with a powerful burst of rapping which definitely adds a little sumthin’ sumthin’. Alvin occasionally gives a little ministry monologue which on the whole comes across well and displays his real heart for strengthening the Church. One of the beauties of this CD is the range of sounds and influences which make it an enjoyable experience all round. Rhythmically at times it felt like the lyrics were a little forced as a result of weaker songwriting and on the track “I Believe” repetition becomes a problem, but on the whole I was left most impressed by a well rounded and beautifully constructed album worthy of listening to again and again.
