'Very Vicarious' is one of four Apologetix albums released in 2017 - these guys are seriously prolific - and follows the parody band's tried and tested format, sticking closely to the original music and melody and dropping in new theme Christian lyrics. This is an eclectic mix of styles from the likes of Men Without Hats, Green Day, Fine Young Cannibals, Men at Work, Cheap Trick and KISS. Musically it can be very hard to tell the original from the parody, lyrically however there is no mistaking things as they take aim at Bible stories ("Outnumbered"), weak theology ("Tasty Plants") and God answering prayers and saving relatives - a suitably cheesy Christmas romp "Grandma Got Won Over By A Stranger" based on "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" by Elmo & Patsy. And that's the rub - this is novelty territory and after a couple of listens it is not novel any more, however good it is.
