Last year the prolific Manchester-based youth church released this 11 track studio album and anyone familiar with !Audacious's previous releases will know what to expect. 'Overflow' features a tried-and-tested mix of big rock ballads and gentler acoustic numbers. The CD doesn't get off to a great start though. The opening title track is a dated rocker complete with over-the-top guitar histrionics and thumping '80s drums. Things improve considerably with the chunky riff and catchy chorus of second track "Glorious" but best of all is the album's sparse and elegant seven minute centrepiece, "Spacious Place" with sweet vocals and a Clapton-esque bluesy guitar line. Also great are the tender, acoustic-based "You Are All That We Want" and closing track "Holy" which builds into a stirring refrain of "Holy, holy is the Lord God almighty". If the album as a whole reached the classy high points of the best songs here it would be a truly essential purchase. As it is, 'Overflow' still remains worthy of investigation.
