Those devotees of drum 'n' bass and particularly the handful of Christians involved in the dance sub genre will be well aware of BCee (otherwise known as Steve Jeffery) and his pioneering Spearhead roster of artists. Now, after a flurry of 12 inch and download releases, BCee has finally released his first CD album and very impressive it is too. 'Beat The System' certainly lies at the more laid back end of the drum 'n' bass spectrum, with less of the heavy, dense production that is typical of the genre. This album is best appreciated as a whole but the 15 tracks do stand up well on their own. "Keep The Faith" is a standout, with its haunting looped groove and trippy bass line, and the title track is also strong. "Out In The Cold" is one of the more high-tempo tracks and finishes off the album nicely and another standout is "Heartache" featuring one-time thebandwithnoname man Ad-Apt. The intricate layered textures of the tracks throughout are deftly executed and if you're looking for a quality collection of the sounds of drum 'n' bass look no further.
