There is quite a buzz going around the Christian music industry about Beanbag at the moment. One reason for this is that they are the first signing to the Newsboys’ new record label; another reason is that this CD is probably so radically different from anything that you have ever heard a Christian band come up with. I’m not even sure what type of music you would flag this as. Perhaps ‘AlternativeIndieRapMetalIndustrialAcidJazzHipHop’, may be a good title. You listen to it and you will see what I mean. This is music of the intense variety, this is an heavy album to listen to. Not heavy metal, just heavy as in ‘Woaah He-vee’. At times it seems as if the music is drilling a hole into your head, which the vocalist then uses to push lyrics such as “My mind has got a physical attraction to yearn for satisfaction/ It chokes my heart so I can’t see us, my mind starts to rust” into. Amongst the credits on the CD inlay you will find the following, “all music and noises by Beanbag.” You will find plenty of both on this CD, both pointing the listener to a Saviour who deals with the deep issues of our lives – if we let Him. Painful listening, bringing ultimate healing. Listen to this a few times, it will be worthwhile.
