One of the stranger subgenres of Christian music is the memory verse song and in truth quite a few have been recorded and released on albums which are now long forgotten. However, the 'Scripture Snacks' series, featuring as they do one of Nashville's most underrated and versatile singers and arrangements/production containing plenty of urban edge from her husband Jack Shocklee make for an album which never descends into conveyor belt blandness. Indeed, the second volume of 'Scripture Snacks' is as engaging as the first. I particularly enjoyed "Like A Child" based on four children-themed Scriptures and "Ask" where three Scriptures each remind us that the Lord is waiting to answer our prayers. But the track which keeps running through my head is the one implanting Galatians 6:9 into the old grey cells. If you haven't yet memorised that particular text ("Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up") a few plays of this will ensure that you do.
