As an opening track, "Chasing You" sings of "running after God's heart" - a popular concept that might imply God's heart is always on the move (it isn't); guitar plus keys accompanying a punchy vocal reminiscent of Blondie's Debbie Harry, and none the worse for it. Next comes "Breaking Through", a lively keyboard opening meeting a pulsating electronic bass line. "I Can Feel You" has a fine female vocal, a poor production quality allowing breath sounds to detract from a clever lyric, "I can feel you, Jesus, all around... When you're here you change the atmosphere", accompanied by drums and percussion shakers. There is an effective version of "Give Me Jesus", with keyboard, synth and light percussion accompanying a male vocal worthy of Art Garfunkel. "Ascend" features sung Scripture - always a reliable lyrical basis - "With clean hands and pure hearts, we will see God" - a neat combination of Psalm 24:4 and Jesus' teaching from the Sermon On The Mount. All in all, a reasonable though not particularly outstanding set from the renowned Redding, California church.
