This live album opens with an extended testimony from the British vocalist (during the track "Believe In You") that describes discouragement and confusion following critical reactions to her first albums ('Jesus Has Been This Way Before' (2003) and 'Hymns' (2006)), especially regarding the quality of her voice itself. Beverley seems uncertain as to why such criticism has come her way, but I'm afraid to say it is not long before 'Live In London' provides answers. Recorded live at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Royal Connections, Plaistow, this set features Beverley leading worship to backing tracks - this is clear from the overall sound, the tell-tale "fade out" on a couple of numbers, and the absence of any information on live musicians - from her earlier recordings. Her vocal is very pronounced in the mix, to the extent that any and all imperfections are glaringly obvious. Sadly, Beverley does not have the range or accuracy of the finest gospel singers especially in this live setting, making for an uncomfortable listening experience at times. Notes are missed and flourishes go awry with regularity. The guest vocals of Lisa Kemp Stewart and Joel McCray (on "Jesus Has Been This Way Before" and "Nearer My God To Thee") come as something of a relief from Moore's singing, and that can't be a good thing. I cannot fault her sincerity or passion, and the backing tracks present some attractive jazz/funk arrangements, but nevertheless I'm sorry to say that I would not recommend 'Live In London'.
