Veteran musoholics will know Bob Carlisle from the Allies and will also know that this is his third solo album. The old rocker has softened since Allies. This is Michael Bolton territory. The album is a blend of soothing ballads and the usual upbeat numbers for balance, with Michael (sorry, Bob's) soulish tonsils getting a good airing. Bob has the kind of voice I love listening to late at night, with the lights down low... Yes, er, this is ear-friendly pop which snaps along nicely. It's very family-orientated, with three songs dedicated to his wife, father and daughter. "Butterfly Kisses" I have to admit is a bit of a stunner, an intimate account of his daughter growing up which passes the sugar-free test. In "Man Of His Word", a passionate tribute to his father, you really can feel the tears fall. Okay, so this is Disney set to music - but that's no bad thing if you're a fan of the feel-good album. I thought this was an honest, personal insight into the life of a family man. Real mellow stuff to unwind to after a tough day.

Bob Carlisle - the man who ousted the Spice Girls from the US number one slot. So is there anything else about this man's music which will appeal? Well, the short answer is a big yes. With a voice resembling Michael Bolton, Bob works his way through 11 tracks including the BIG hit "Butterfly Kisses" - a song about a father's relationship with his daughter - very nice! "I'm Gonna Be Ready" could have easily come from the pen of a certain Stock, Aitken and Waterman and features a duet with Bryan Duncan. This is a collection of inspirational songs which will reach you where you're at and most definitely touch the spot. Some of the lyrics are a weeny bit on the corny side and with the best will in the world I don't expect Bob will be charting over here let alone reaching the number one slot. A very nice album overall, well produced and very easy on the ear. A good one to have on in the background when you have friends for dinner.
