Back in 1997 the Booley House released a debut album called 'Lemonade'. The band split leaving singer Peter Wilson to go solo and thus call himself Booley. This debut EP of quirky pop tunes demonstrates a songwriter willing to push back a few boundaries. The title cut is a catchy piece of memorable pop which deserves to be on high rotation on your local radio station. Mainly guitar based pop with a few loops and stuff thrown in, Booley's voice has an unusual quality, expressive and at times passionately powerful. This is demonstrated on 'Drown' where he ups a gear going into the chorus and the whole song takes off. "My Little Glory" weaves strong melody with some insistent musical backing which again demonstrates Booley's ability to make a chorus take off. "God On Your Side" and "Alright" includes some sharp social commentary, something which is often near the surface when Booley writes, and proves that in these days of disposable pop there are some writers who still have things to say that are worth hearing. Not an absolute classic but much of this points to a bright future when Booley fulfils his promise. Oh yeah, listen out for the bizarre hidden track at the end!
