Another in the Vineyard series of Training interviews with respected worship leaders. In the spotlight this time is Vineyard UK's Brenton Brown, who, according to the sleevenotes, hails "from South Africa and the UK" (?). Now based in Oxford, Brenton is the author of classics like "Lord, Reign In Me", "Hallelujah (Your Love Is Amazing)" and the sublime "Humble King". He relates the origins of that song here and has plenty of other illuminating testimonies and advice to share (50 mins total); I found his thoughts on 'Preparing a set" and "Songwriting mistakes" especially interesting. Other subjects include "Establishing Flow", "Mentoring Others", "Co-writing" and "Blue Sky Mining"! For Brenton, good theology is essential to good writing and so lyrical content is of supreme importance. Though a specialist resource, I've gotta say I found Brenton's "inside story" on worship writing/leading genuinely interesting.

I have ordered three copies of the Brown's "Everlasting God"
(to start). I am eagerly awaiting their arrival at our local
bookstore. My husband and I have been leading in worship for
many years and I came down with CFS a little over 5 years
ago, in my 6th pregnancy and after missions and worship
/prayer conference work and travel. I cannot express to you
the encouragement that the Browns's lives, via their music
and what interviews I have read, have provided to this
heart. It is a wave of refreshing Holy Spirit water to be
able to see and to hear people who are triumphing through
Christ Jesus despite the tough stuff of life. My family is
praying for them and our church is singing their songs.
Jesus is Lord!
