West Country band Brother John's new CD 'Sing For The Light' is a good testament to the different musical styles the band enjoy. Starting with the funk fuelled title track, the CD barrels through rock, roots acoustic and hillbillie bop with confidence and enthusiasm. The song lyrics are all centred around praise and worship, but in more of a personal than congregation style. 'SFTL' doesn't really do the band as much justice as it could do as a lot of the vocals and instruments sound unprocessed and raw. For some bands' music this isn't a problem but this EP feels a little empty for its absence. What it does do is give you an idea of how good they would be live, which is the setting most bands prefer to be heard in anyway.
