Featured on the garage compilation 'Phat'n'Heavy' with an alternative version of "Lift Him Up", Byron Barrett straddles the territory between garage and R&B and reveals himself as a very strong songwriter and singer on this debut single. Aided and abetted by remixers, the results are two different mixes of each of the three songs here. The lead track is "Lift Him Up" which has a stripped down remix from Nicky Brown which brings the soulfulness of his voice to the fore. That continues in his breathy delivery of "Li'l More Time" which is nicely driven along by some sharp percussion. Remix duties then fall to Phil Mayers who gives the song a slightly clubbier feel. Third up is "Follow Me" which definitely has a Craig David feel on the "Mad Hat Remix" before exploring spacier territory on the "Secret Place Remix". All in all, it just demonstrates that British gospel is spreading its wings and creating music that is every bit as dynamic as anything in the charts.
