Another retrospective release prompted by Word's 25th birthday - a tame compilation of tried and tested 70s and early 80s worship songs, taken from the CWR albums 'Come Alive' (1 and 2) and 'O Magnify The Lord With Us'. These might have made the grade a few years back, but by today's standards the sound is decidedly limp. Most of the instrumental backing lacks finesse - many church worship bands could do as well. Meanwhile, the choral-style vocal arrangements, although competent, seem ill suited to many of the songs, some of which are also taken at a sluggish pace. "Ascribe Greatness" and "I Am A New Creation" are perhaps the worst casualties, though the vocal harmonies on "There Is A Redeemer". "As The Deer" and "Spirit Song" are quite appealing. On balance, Word would have done better to leave these recordings in the annals of history.
